Lighting design of Dakar’s West Coast boulevard, adjacent squares and seafront. The lighting equipment, which was stipulated to be placed mainly on the central reservation, enables to highlight the “Corniche” coast promenade and open up the vistas. The route is punctuated with patterns derived from ‘Batik’ African textile art.
Colored lights mounted on poles of varying height and placed at varying intervals punctuate the eleven-kilometer urban boulevard. They act as a music score along the batik-patterned spots. Small light poles with red LEDs are scattered along the sea front. Spotlights were placed here and there on the laterite surface to emphasize breaks in the landscaping.
