Place de la Concorde’s redevelopment
We’ve won, alongside Atelier d’architecture Philippe Prost and L’atelier de paysages Bruel Delmar, the competition to redevelop project Paris’ Place de la Concorde. The aim of the lighting project is to give back to this public space a nocturnal functionality, while restoring and enhancing its former architectural shape, composition and uses. According to Jacques Hittorff’s 1830s plan, light poles are re-installed, respecting the horizontals, verticals and radials alignments coming from the emblematic fountains. Typical Champs-Élysées’ columns are raised, in line their historical installation. The project plan to reuse widely this heritage, ensuring that the lighting complies with the requirements and ambitions of the Parisian dark sky policy. Thus, light gives back functionality and readability to space, with the goal of improving the comfort and mobility for the pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Punctual and subtle illuminations are proposed to enhance the square’s night-time legibility and to highlight the iconic elements of its design. Round the natural areas at the edges of the site, les éclaireurs preserve local biodiversity and respect the Parisian dark sky plan. The upcoming project shapes into a ‘garden square’, offering to Paris a touch of freshness.
