“Barcelone” public square
Lighting design for “Barcelone” public garden in Gerland / Lyon, France. The square “Place de Barcelone” is located near the international high school, Gerland Park and the famous Tony Garnier Theatre; it is both an urban junction point and a very cozy place to stop for a break. The esplanade is bathed in the lunar glimmer of a frosty overhead lighting contrasting with the underbrush area, which is surrounded by orangey low-angle lights.
The underbrush is designed as a contemplative space whose warm shades invite visitors to stop by. The esplanade is meant to be a passing-by area. Solid stone benches form transversal lines that seem to be a continuation of the neighboring façade’s pattern; they emphasise the junction between the two contrasting spaces.
a space full of contrasts
