Cathedral’s surroundings in Rouen
The aim of this urban operation is to link the pedestrianised historic heart of Rouen and the Seine, by organising an ascent towards the Cathedral. At the foot of this famous monument, the Place de la Calende is marked by a significant difference in level. Four large aluminium poles give a particular identity to this very mineral pedestrian space. Their height, which varies according to their location, creates a constant and structuring light ceiling. The LED spotlights fixed in cascade on each of the poles cover the whole square with a warm tint and contribute to its animation thanks to a dynamic light. The south square of the Cathedral offers different levels of terraces and planted areas. The nocturnal atmosphere of the gardens is intimate and calm with a warm light, whose discreet lighting equipment is hidden in the vegetation, to allow the cathedral to express its verticality.
