Simone Veil bridge
les éclaireurs developed, renewed and technically enhanced the lighting concepts of visual artist Odile Soudant and OMA. This majestic bridge, over 44 m wide and 550 m long, becomes a monumental public square as well as a major passageway. It will regularly host events such as the wine fair, and is transformed into a lively pedestrian space all year long. The site flexibility is the essence of this work: imagining the illumination for a traffic area, while at the same time offering versatility of function during events. This bridge blends harmoniously into its surroundings, elegantly overlooking the Garonne, creating a unique, multi-faceted object. les éclaireurs developed a subtle, continuous and homogeneous concept, guiding walkers on either side of the riverbank. Most of the fixtures are removable, following the architectural guideline of versatility. All elements such as railings, benches and lighting fixtures follow a certain circular line, creating an architecturally homogeneous passageway. As the project evolved, particular attention was paid to environmental impact and light pollution. The proximity of the Garonne river requires delicate and sensitive control of light beams, respecting the surrounding landscape while illuminating this emblematic site.
